The mobile app for literary magazines.

Motif is a platform to find, read, and discuss literature. Are you an editor for a magazine? Sign up below to join us on this exciting new initiative!

Why are we making Motif?

As an editor of a new literary magazine (propagule.co), I struggled to reach my readers and find a community that would be interested in our published work, and as a reader, was discouraged by how hard it was to find other magazines similar to the ones I liked.

What will Motif do?

Independent literature faces obstacles on two fronts; readers must overcome a confusing media landscape to discover their new favorite publications, while magazines do not have the tools to properly understand and grow their readership.

Motif is a platform built to solve these problems and connect readers with publishers by recommending users to your magazine that, based on their tastes, will be likely to enjoy your work!

Is Motif like Chillsubs or Duotrope?

While Chillsubs and Duotrope are platforms intended to help authors find magazines to submit to, Motif is intended to help readers find magazines that they will love to read.

Because magazines will be uploading their work directly onto Motif, readers will be able to access that work straight from the app, giving each participating magazine a seamless mobile experience and every reader a single place to find all their favorite publishers!

How will Motif work?

Users will be able to follow magazines and be notified of new releases, create custom collections of works from across different publishers, like and comment on pieces, share their favorites, stay up to date on what their friends are reading, and more!

Will Motif be free to join for magazines?

Yes! Magazines can list their content on Motif at no cost, forever.

Will Motif own my work?

Absolutely not. Magazines are free to remove their issues from the platform at any time.
